Finding New Joy : Hope House

Marcus* was 17 and had been involved in Juvenile Court for the past 3 years. In and out of foster homes most of his life, he was now struggling with anger issues in his adoptive home

Enough was enough, and now his adoptive mom wanted out.

We met Marcus in January 2017, when he was sitting in jail with nowhere to go and no one to call. Part of his situation was inherited from choices others made for him. Part of it was his own choice. But after everyone else gave up on him, God was still pursuing Marcus.

And so were we.

At his court hearing, the judge identified two options for Marcus.

He could go to DYS (essentially “youth prison”) for a minimum of 6 months, or he could go to Deliver Hope’s transitional program, the Hope House

Marcus has been in our program for just over 4 months now. He lives in one of our Hope Homes, pursuing a job and learning self-sufficiency. He is always smiling! Just last week he stood before the judge again. After reviewing his progress and hearing his intentions, the judge released Marcus from probation 5 months early!

“The thing that brings me the most joy in life is providing resources to youth who would otherwise have none, because I remember what it felt like to have nowhere to go and no one to turn to.”
